~ Two-Hour Woodstock Special ~
We are the closest radio station to the Woodstock '69 site, now the Bethel Woods performance spaces. Below is the playlist for the 2 hour special 8/12/2017 airing noon to 2 pm at wjffradio.org The show remains on the archive link for 2 weeks.
I wove some music around some segments called "Two minutes of Peace and Music" sent by http://www.woodstock.com/ and also read some bits about who played what at Woodstock and other trivia and facts. Jesse Ballew helps host the second hour during his usual time for Jambalaya
Woodstock 69 was in Swan Lake / Bethel (the orginal actaul site , not Woodstock N.Y.) and is just a few miles from the station and this summer celebrating the 48th anniversary of Woodstock [Bethel is pronounced with the accent on the first syllable]
"Sheer size made Woodstock consequential. It was huge. The Beatles had played to 55,000 people at Shea Stadium; the 1965 Newport Folk Festival spread about 71,000 people over four days. Had Woodstock drawn the 100,000 to 150,000 people that its promoters planned for, it would simply have been one in a string of big rock festivals dating back to Monterey Pop in 1967, which had an estimated total of 200,000 people over three days. Several acts were booked and scheduled but didn’t show up. Iron Butterfly were stranded at an airport. Joni Mitchell missed it because of a highway closing, [I'm adding here, that her manager has her play elsewhere, this is not correct] but made up for it by writing the song that became one of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young's most famous.
